Ann Magnolia is mostly noted for its compact shrubby habit, slightly fragrant purple-red flowers and late bloom. It is a slow-growing, deciduous shrub/small tree that will typically rise to be over 8-10 feet tall and equally as wide. Goblet shaped flowers are lightly fragrant and may sporadically repeat bloom in mid summer. Medium green leaves turn yellow in fall. The Ann Magnolia is best grown in moist, organically rich, acidic, well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade. This is a late-blooming magnolia that is less apt to suffer frost damage in spring.
