Citrus Australian Finger Lime Tree, a semi-dwarf cultivar, is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and fits beautifully into an edible landscape. The tree blooms in clusters of lovely, fragrant, pink and white blossoms in early to midsummer, followed by an abundant crop of elongated, finger-like fruit in fall (November-February in California). The unique fruit, prized by chefs worldwide, is filled with caviar-like pearls of juice that have a tart, lime flavor and add an interesting texture to dishes. Use them like any other lime or as an eye-catching topping or garnish. A Microcitrus australasica, a citrus relative, also known as finger lime or caviar lime, the Australian Finger Lime has been grafted onto semi-dwarf rootstock. The tree has handsome dark green foliage and makes an excellent specimen. It is 10 to 15 feet tall at full maturity (about 4 years) but can easily be pruned to maintain any desired size and shape. In cooler climates, the tree can be grown in a container and moved indoors during winter, if ample sunlight is provided. Although a container grown tree will not reach its full growth potential and will remain much smaller, it will still flower and set full-sized fruits. The tree is self-fertile and will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties. An easy-grow, easy-care tree, especially in warm, temperate climates (Zone 10-11), Citrus Australian Finger Lime Tree is an understory plant in its native Australia, so it thrives in filtered light, but it also grows well in full sun. It tolerates a wide range of soils but prefers humus-rich soil that drains well. Protect plants from strong winds and temperatures below freezing. Citrus trees will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. Citrus trees do not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
