Alphabet's Waymo is recalling more than 1,200 self-driving vehicles to update their software and address the risks of collisions with chains, gates and other roadway barriers.
Self-driving cars are slowly becoming less sci-fi and more real-world as companies like Waymo, the driverless arm of Google's parent company, Alphabet, expand into more cities -- and countries.
Self-driving vehicle company Waymo said about 1,200 vehicles are being recalled due to a software issue that could cause collisions with roadway barriers.
The self-driving ride hailing service issued a recall following a series of collisions involving barriers in the road.
Most recently, Waymo was forced to halt its self-driving service in downtown Los Angeles after five of its vehicles were set ablaze during volatile anti-ICE protests.
