The measles outbreak that began in West Texas has now grown to more than 300 cases across three states.

Measles cases related to the outbreak have been reported in 11 Texas counties since late January, with the vast majority of 191 in Gaines County, followed by Terry County with 36 cases and Dawson and Yoakum counties each with 11. There have been seven other cases in the state not tied to the West Texas outbreak.

After being declared "eliminated" by the Department of Health in 2000, measles is back on the mainland and spreading across the country. While there have been no confirmed cases in Hawaii this year, state health officials are enouraging everyone to get vaccinated to prevent an outbreak here.
