Yoon Suk Yeol became the first South Korean leader to be held by criminal investigators, ending a long standoff after he imposed martial law.

Yoon’s detention comes after a stand-off between South Korean investigators and his presidential bodyguards, who blocked earlier efforts to detain him.

South Korean authorities have arrested impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over allegations of insurrection tied to his Dec. 3 martial law declaration, officials said.
