The recall was originally announced Sept. 6 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It was upgraded Sept. 30 to Class I.

Most people infected with salmonella will begin to develop symptoms 12 to 72 hours after swallowing the bacteria. The illness, salmonellosis, usually lasts four to seven days and most people recover without treatment, according to the FDA. Diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps are common symptoms.
