The team announced Boyle's release on Tuesday afternoon while signing quarterback Brett Rypien off the Seattle Seahawks' Practice Squad to fill the vacant roster spot. The 29-year-old Boyle started back-to-back games for New York prior to being pulled from the Week 13 loss to Atlanta after three quarters.

The Jets had interest in Rypien earlier this season after Aaron Rodgers got injured, but he signed with the Rams.
