Pope Francis went to Rome's Gemelli hospital for a brief check-up on Tuesday and has returned to the Vatican, the Holy See's press office said in a statement.

The Vatican confirmed Tuesday that Pope Francis had gone to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital in the morning to for some clinical tests and returned to the Vatican before noon.

Because his check-up was on Tuesday, a day on which he normally does not have any audiences in the Vatican, it seems reasonable to say the visit was scheduled in advance.
