SpaceX is gearing up for the launch of Falcon 9, which is expected to carry four Polaris Dawn mission astronauts to low-Earth orbit from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The mission aims to send the Crew Dragon spacecraft, carrying four civilian astronauts, to the highest Earth orbit achieved since the Apollo program. The crew will also attempt the first-ever private spacewalk.

After the rocket was originally supposed to take off almost two years ago the new launch date is set for Monday, September 9 at 3:38 am.

The four Polaris Dawn crew members were initially scheduled to lift off on their five-day journey on Aug. 27 from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

Polaris Dawn, a private space mission that aims to complete the first-ever civilian spacewalk, is expected to launch this week. SpaceX said it’s targeting Tuesday August 27 at 3:38AM ET for liftoff.

Wednesday's 4½-hour launch window for the Starlink 8-11 mission opens at 8:59 a.m. EDT and extends until 2:29 p.m., the FAA reported.

SpaceX has filed a new launch request with the Federal Aviation Administration to make another attempt to launch its Polaris Dawn mission.
