Strong geomagnetic storms and a moderate solar radiation storm have led to an aurora view forecast for Wednesday night in the northern U.S.
(NEXSTAR) — An incredibly strong geomagnetic storm brought the northern lights into California, Arkansas, and even Florida, all areas that rarely get a chance to see the celestial colors. Much of the U.S. may again get to see the aurora Wednesday, if conditions pan out.
Auroras might be seen again tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 12, across the nation thanks to another powerful coronal mass ejection that's headed for Earth.
The northern lights could be visible from a much larger portion of the northern United States than usual on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as X-class flares from the sun days earlier impact the Earth.
Though the aurora does occasionally appear in Wisconsin, it is rare to see a display as dazzling and widespread as Nov. 11 and 12.
Northern lights, known as aurora borealis, can be seen in the sky on Tuesday night.
