New York City police say a man with a gun was killed in a shootout with officers. The shootout came Thursday after the man earlier pointed his weapon at a man in an apartment building elevator and a deli worker and threatened to shoot up a hospital.

Firefighters suffered burns after there was an explosion as they responded to a fire involving trash and cars in the Bronx, officials said.
