Paula Prado has four young children, so when the verdict that she and 11 other jurors decided in the Karen Read trial was announced inside a Dedham courthouse Wednesday, she began to cry for John O’Keefe’s mother.

Karen Read was found not guilty for the 2022 death of her Boston police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe, more than one year after her first trial ended in a hung jury.

Read was accused of hitting her boyfriend with her car and leaving him to die in a snowstorm, but alleged she was the victim of a cover-up by his fellow officers. Her 2024 trial ended in a hung jury.
