The House voted Thursday morning to censure progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y) for pulling a fire alarm in a Capitol office building before a high-stakes floor vote to stave off a government shutdown in September, a move criticized by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle that Bowman has repeatedly called an accident.

The resolution was sponsored by Rep. Lisa C. McClain (R-Mich.), secretary of the House Republican conference, who said that Bowman had “knowingly pulled a fire alarm to cause chaos.”
