President Donald Trump is moving to grant yet another three-month extension for short-form video social media platform TikTok to arrange a deal, before enforcing the sale-or-ban legislation passed last year,

Under a U.S. law that went into effect Jan. 19, 2025, it is illegal for American companies to host or distribute TikTok in the country as long as it remains controlled by its Chinese owner, ByteDance.

During his first term, Trump banned TikTok by executive order, arguing it was a potential tool of a foreign adversary, China. Courts thwarted that ban. The law was passed last year and was set to take effect as Trump began his second presidential term.
