A preliminary-magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the Malibu area in Southern California on Friday afternoon and was felt throughout much of the greater Los Angeles area.

Saturday's event was the sixth earthquake of magnitude 3 or higher since a magnitude 4.7 earthquake in the same area was widely felt across Southern California on Sept. 12.

A 3.8-magntiude earthquake struck 12 miles off the coast of Malibu, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The strong jolt just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday was felt across the LA-area.
