President Lai says Taiwan will continue to strengthen its defence as preparing for war is best way to avoid it

Taiwan's president, Lai Ching-te, says his country wants dialogue with China but still needs to prepare for war. Lai, who is marking a year in power, rejects Beijing's claim of sovereignty over the self-ruled island.

Taiwan wants peace and dialogue with China as war has no winners, but the government must continue to strengthen Taiwan's defenses, President William Lai (賴清德) said today as he completed one year in office.
