A Chicago police officer was shot in the leg when an armed suspect's gun discharged during a violent scuffle, and police returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect.

CHICAGO - A man was found shot to death on a West Side street Wednesday night. Chicago police responded around 9:13 p.m. to the 2600 block of West Wilcox Street after someone reported an unresponsive man on the street. When officers arrived, they found a man, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, with a gunshot wound to his head.

CHICAGO (AP) — The upbeat mood in a busy Chicago neighborhood known for its restaurants and nightlife quickly turned into horror late Wednesday as shots were fired at a crowd from a fast-moving vehicle, killing four people.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the shooting. A spokesperson said COPA is "conducting a thorough investigation into the incident" and added that anytime an officer fires their gun, they notify the Cook County State's Attorney's Office and "did so in this incident."
